Login and registration problems for Internet Explorer users now appear to be resolved. A recently installed plugin to address IE problems with PNG files was disabling mouse clicks on the login page; the login has been removed and the website now seems to be working with IE. As a generalisation, I have had fewer problems working with Firefox as a browser.
